Betty Smith Payne

Betty Smith Payne, 91, of Dalton passed away on January 9, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Paul E. Payne; her parents, Ben and Agnes Smith; her grandson, Brandon Byers; her son-in-law, Ricky Byers; and, four brothers and three sisters.

Betty was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was a Red Cross Volunteer at Hamilton Medical Center for over 20 years. She loved traveling. Betty will be missed deeply by her family and friends who she loved very much.

Betty is survived by her children: Beverly (Ben) Clayton, Allen (Mary) Payne, Joyce Payne Byers, and Mark (Rhonda) Payne; her grandchildren: Cynthia (Ron) Ochal, Jennifer (Eric) Simmons, Heather Carmical, Candus (Brian) Groves, Zach (Brandy) Byers, Angie (Steven) Brown, and Meredith (Shawn) Holton; her great-grandchildren: Tyler, Cayla, Trey, Seth, Owen, Ansley, Brandi, Grace, Lily, Jackson, Addy, and Rhett; and, her great-great-grandchildren: Riley and Laylin.

The funeral service for Betty Payne will be held on Tuesday, January 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Visitation for Mrs. Payne will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for the love, compassion, and care that they provided to Betty. The family requests that flowers be omitted and any donations in Betty’s memory be given to one’s favorite charity.
