He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Frances; his children, Peggy Gust of Calhoun, Faye Hammonds (James) of Rocky Face, Kaye Clark of Dalton, and Bobby Joe Grant Jr. (Jamie) of Plant City, FL; grandchildren, Justin Gregory (Ginny), Matthew Schiavone, Olivia Gust, Stephen Tibbetts (Bonnie), Sarah Stone (Danny), Phillip Hammonds (Taylor), Ethan Shupe (Shelby), Hannah Welch (Chase), Dillon Clark (Olivia), and Megan Grant (Fiancé Nick); great-grandchildren, Carter Stone, Anna Faye Stone, Magnolia Tibbetts, Willey Tibbetts, Keaton Blackwell; step-great-grandchildren, Jonluke Stone and Ryan Stone; special friends, Sam Hamrick and Chuck Hankins.
Bobby loved playing softball. He started at a very young age and continued playing until he was 70 years old. He was inducted into the DPRD Softball Hall of Fame in 2000 alongside Froggy Fowler. He is still known as one of the best left-handed shortstops ever. Bobby also loved shooting pool. He spent many days shooting pool at the Senior Center with his friends, traveling to Chattanooga to beat the “young” guys as he would put it. But his most favorite pastime was his farm. He spent many days bush hogging the fields, planting food plots for the deer and turkey, hunting with his grandsons, walking the roadbeds and fishing the ponds.
Funeral services for Bobby will be held at 2 PM on Thursday in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Hamm officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 10 AM until 2 PM. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Baptist Church, 2907 Old Rome Road SE, Dalton, GA 30720.
The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice and especially nurse Krystal. Without her, this would have been a much tougher journey.
