Loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and prominent business leader, Mr. Chang Bin Yim, age 82, of Dalton, GA, passed away on August 31, 2020.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Mr. Yim lived a full and blessed life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ji-Soon Yim, his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Lian-Pao Chang, and his brother, Jung Bin Yim. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Yim of Dalton, GA; his sons Daniel (Carol) of Dalton, GA, Michael (Jane) of Leawood, KS, Edward (Hejin) of Bellevue, WA; and his grandchildren Alan Yim, Thomas Yim, Lauren Yim, Sarah Yim, Justin Yim, Grace Yim, Evan Yim, Henry Yim, and Ashley Yim. He is also survived by his older brother Sang Bin Yim, his younger sisters Si Ja Yim, Kyung Ja Yim, and Ok Bin Yim and nieces and nephews.
In 1958, Mr. Yim came to the United States and earned dual BS degrees in chemistry and math from the University of Central Missouri State. He met his wife Alice in 1964 and went on to earn his Masters in Statistics at the University of Missouri. From there, Mr. Yim moved briefly to Los Angeles and then to Dalton to work at Textile Rubber and Chemical Company. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Yim operated 25 different companies around the world.
In 2017, he was awarded the University of Central Missouri Distinguished International Alumni Award. In 2011, Mr. Yim was inducted into the NWGA Jr.Achievement Hall of Fame. In 2010, Mr. Yim was also awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor which paid tribute to immigrants who came to the US and hailed various accomplishments. Recognized by the US House of Representatives and the Senate, Mr. Yim is listed in the Congressional Record for his active role in the Korean Chamber of Commerce where he served as president from 2000-2002. In 2002, he earned the highest civilian award from the South Korean Government.
Mr. and Mrs. Yim founded RAYHE (Respect And Honor Your Elderly), LLC in the early 2000s. To this day, this organization supports the staff at Ridgewood Manor, Wood Dale Health Care Center, Regency Park Health Center, and Quinton Memorial Health Care in Dalton and awards a nursing scholarship at Dalton State College.
Mr. Yim made a lasting impact to Dalton, a community he proudly called home for the past 55 years. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Dalton and an avid golfer at DGCC. Mr. Yim loved to spend his time traveling with his family, skiing, gardening, and playing musical instruments. His sense of humor, vibrant stories, and kindness always brought happiness to those around him.
Mr. Yim not only achieved business success, but was a loving grandfather who immensely enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren. He enjoyed playing jokes on them and will be greatly missed.
Later in life, Mr. Yim chose Jesus as his Lord and Savior, and his family rejoices in knowing he is in heaven, with our Heavenly Father.
