Mrs. Delores Lewis Cox, age 81, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 15, 2024.
She was born on Thursday, March 4, 1943, to the Rev. DeWitt Frank Lewis and Mrs. Jessie Lou Lewis.
Delores graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Valley Point High School in Dalton in 1961. She was a cheerleader in high school and was also active with the school’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America. After high school, she attended Shorter College (now Shorter University) in Rome, where she obtained her business degree. She had a very successful business career, which included working as secretary to the Executive Vice President for Shaw Industries, as well as working as a Realtor for Century 21. In addition to her professional endeavors, Delores was also well known throughout the community as a gospel vocalist, pianist, and organist, sharing her talents throughout numerous churches within the Northwest Georgia area, as well as through hosting The Gospel Broadcast on WBLJ.
In addition to her parents, Delores is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Kenneth Leon Cox, to whom she was married for forty-seven years.
She is survived by her son, Cary Calhoun of Dalton, as well as her stepchildren, Kenton Cox of Snellville and Karmon Suits of Varnell.
Funeral services for Mrs. Delores Cox will be conducted on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her parents and her husband at West Hill Cemetery.
