Trammell graduated from Dalton High School, spent some time at West Georgia College and served from 1950 to 1955 in the United States Navy. In 1961 Trammell and his brother established AA Vending Company. He successfully led this company through many expansions for over forty years.

Trammell was a committed member of the Dalton community. He served on the City Council and on the boards of the Salvation Army and Wachovia Bank. He was a past chair of the Chamber of Commerce and member of the inaugural class of Leadership Dalton, the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation and the James and Sis Brown Dalton College Foundation. As a young adult Trammell was a competitive member of the church league softball team. He assisted building many home ramps through his mission work at First Methodist Church and he was still an active member of the Dalton Rotary Club.
