Elizabeth (Betty) Aborn McCamy Lumpkin, 95, entered the Church Triumphant on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
As well as by her beloved husband W.H.(Bill) Lumpkin, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. McCamy; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Lumpkin, Sr.; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton McCamy; brother-in-law, Dr. Murray Lumpkin; sisters, Anne Henderson and Louise McCutchen; sister-in-law, Lillian Hollis; brother-in-law J.C. Shaw; nephews, Kelly McCutchen and Carlton (Bobba) McCutchen; and niece, Ann McDonald
Betty is survived by her son and favorite daughter-in-law, Dr. Bill and Susan Chandler Lumpkin; daughter, Anne Elizabeth Lumpkin; daughter and favorite son-in-law, Mary Julian and David Renz; grandson, David Lee (Caroline) Lumpkin; granddaughters, Jane Elizabeth Lumpkin and Lexie(Mitch) Oliver. Also surviving are four special great-grandchildren, Julia Lumpkin, Will Lumpkin, Renz Oliver and Ivey Grace Oliver; sisters-in-law, Margaretta Shaw and Carol Lumpkin; many special nieces and nephews, including Elizabeth Bennett and Missy Phillips.
Betty was a native Daltonian, growing up during the Great Depression and living through World War ll. Her love of music developed during her school years and continued her whole life. After graduating from Dalton High School, she won a scholarship to Shorter College and studied piano. She married her childhood sweetheart in 1946 and raised her family, all while teaching piano lessons to generations of students and faithfully serving her church in several capacities.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate a life well-lived will be Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 2:00 at ChristChurch Presbyterian Church, 510 S. Tibbs Rd, Dalton, GA, 30720. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, monetary gifts to the music department of ChristChurch would be a wonderful reminder of Betty’s devotion to serving the Lord through music.
