Enid Mcgregor Whitecotton

July 31, 1927 — May 16, 2018

Enid McGregor Whitecotton of Dalton passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at home with her family.

Enid was preceded in death by her husband William A. “Bill” Whitecotton whom she helped for many years in the family business, Whitecotton Leather Co. Enid was born July 31, 1927 to Claude and Rella McGregor who passed in 1985 and 2004 respectively. Enid also lost her brother, Larry McGregor in 1996.

When our mother was young she learned to play the piano and sang beautifully in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Choir in Chattanooga. She loved music and her talent when she was in her happy place at the piano. Our parents found commonality in their mutual love for classical music. Over the years, they attended many concerts of the Chattanooga Symphony, with their coveted season tickets. From Cabaret Dinner Concerts to the nostalgic setting of the beloved Tivoli Theater, Mother and Daddy love all of the music.

Our mother was a talented seamstress and like her mother was also a skilled tailor of fine clothing. Mother made all the clothes for her daughters and herself. Oh and yes the formals for school dances, she made them with personal care. Her son received all the retail clothing and she certainly shopped with much care for him. Mother could put together such amazing drapes as well as simple curtains for her kitchen. The kitchen was a good place for mother but the room with the sewing machine was another happy place throughout her productive life. As long as she lived in her home she would sew. Even when she was unable to safely use her machine she would sew, by hand. Mother could do amazing alterations, to any article of clothing, with hand stitching that seamed with the precision of her machine. When she decided she could no longer live on her own, she took her needles and scissors just in case something needed repair.

Enid is survived by her children Beth Norris (Cliff) of Seagrove, NC, Ann Piscitelli of Dalton, and Brad Whitecotton (Dani) of Clarksville, GA. 7 grandchildren Page Mikol (John), Cliff Norris, Jr. (Sarah), Laura Piscitelli, Michael Piscitelli (Maria), Jeff Whitecotton, Mary Beth Whitecotton and Reed Whitecotton. 4 great-grandchildren Breanna, Adrian, Analybeth and Jeremiah. Two precious sister-in-laws Ruth Wier and Dorothy Whitecotton and many nieces and nephews also survive her.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for their care and compassion and also to Lacretia Gonthier for her long time love and care.

Services will be held at Dalton First Baptist Church on Saturday at 11 AM with Rev. Jonathan Barlow and Rev. Larry Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors on Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Love Funeral Home and on Saturday in the Chapel of the Church from 9:30 until the funeral at 11 AM.
