Essie West

Mrs. Emma Estelle ‘Essie’ West, age 100, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024.  Essie was born on Wednesday, May 21, 1924, in Ellijay, Georgia, to the late Mr. Wesley Davis Bennett and Mrs. Lona Emma Jane Wimpey Bennett.

In addition to her parents, Essie was preceded in death by her husband, Buford West; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eula Mae (Herbert) Thompson, Lela (Ruel) Greenway, Neta (Arthur “Ott”) Thompson, Dora Lee (Robert) White, and Mary Lou (Ralph) Newton; and brother, Arvil Bennett.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deby West (Rick Livingston) of Dalton and son and daughter-in-law, Mike West (Lisa Johnston) of Marietta.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews Weems White, Bobby (Dorene) White, Pat (L.D.) Faw, and Travis and Dwight Thompson, all of Dalton; Cathy (Bob) Cheatham of Canton; Vicki Sellers of Memphis and Catherine Meador of Acworth.  Great nieces and nephews also survive.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Love Funeral Home.  A private burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery, where Essie will be laid to rest next to her husband.

The family kindly asks that flowers please be omitted and that donations be made in Essie’s memory to one’s favorite charity or church.
