Frank E. Howell

Frank E. Howell passed away May 29 at his Royal Oaks residence.

He was born in Summerville (Chattooga County) in 1919 and was preceded in death by his parents, Deed and Ella Howell, his wife, Hazel, two brothers, Bob and Olan Howell and a sister, Margaret Strickland. He and Hazel had been married almost 70 years at the time of her death in March 2017. Frank was employed by Lockheed; serving as a field representative in North America, Europe, Turkey, and Libya.

Frank is survived by three nephews, Kenneth (Jenith) Strickland of Chattanooga, Bob (Madelyn) Howell of Clayton, GA and Dan Howell of Guntersville, AL. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law (sisters-in-law), Morris (June) Hughes of Fayetteville, GA and Dewey (Martha) Hughes of Dalton, GA; nieces and nephews, Jean (Henry) Davis of Leary, GA, Shirley (Allin) Butcher of Lake City, FL, Leah Hughes of Atlanta, GA, Morris (Sheila) Hughes of Molena, GA, Donna (Troy) Saunders of Jenkinsburg, GA, Lynn (Johnny) Huddleston of Fayetteville, GA, Dale Strickland of Fayetteville, GA; and several great nieces and nephews.

While working and traveling with Lockheed, the Howells made many special friends in Canada, Europe, Turkey and Libya. After retiring, they lived at Lake Arrowhead near Canton, GA and then at Royal Oaks in Dalton, where they added additional friends. He and Hazel became members of First Baptist Church, Dalton. The family is grateful to the staff of Royal Oaks, the wonderful sitters (Freda Boring, Tammi Willis, Rhonda Smith, and Kathy Bishop), and to the Heartlife Hospice staff for their love and excellent care.

A memorial service will be held at Love Funeral Home on June 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jonathan Barlow and Dr. Jim Kilgore officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 until 11a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Little Sand Mountain, Chattooga County, Georgia.
