Gail Ann Duke, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Dalton, GA, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness. She was 76 years old.

Born to Ralph and Vido Hammontree, Gail grew up surrounded by love and warmth in Dalton, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Randall Hammontree. Gail is survived by her devoted husband, Tommy Duke, her sons Shane, Eric (and Leeann), and Spencer (and Amy) Gazaway, and her cherished grandchildren, Nolan, Samuel, Carli, Luke, Lily, and Sawyer Gazaway, Merrill Lane and Sig Brown, and Chloe and Asa St. Aubin. She is also survived by her stepdaughters, Delin Brown and Merrill (and Channing) St. Aubin, as well as her sister-in-law, Anne Hammontree.

Gail's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to serving others. For many years, she shared her talent and passion as a hairdresser, touching the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and compassion. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor brought comfort and joy to all who had the pleasure of sitting in her chair.

Gail's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found extraordinary joy and purpose in her involvement with First Baptist Church of Dalton. Over the years, she dedicated herself to various ministries within the church, but it was her work with Soul Food that truly exemplified her selflessness and compassion. Founded in 2008, Soul Food was a testament to Gail's deep commitment to helping those in need. Through this ministry, she provided nourishment, support, and hope to countless working families struggling to make ends meet. Gail's love for Jesus was evident in every aspect of her life. She lived out her faith with humility, grace, and unwavering devotion, serving as a beacon of light and salt to everyone she encountered. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her generosity touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Though Gail may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. Her legacy of love, compassion, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Gail's life will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Dalton. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 in the church atrium.
