Gene Pendley

July 23, 1936 — August 5, 2020

Roy Eugene (Gene) Pendley passed away on Wednesday evening, August 5, 2020, at Dalton Place. Gene was born on July 23, 1936, in Whitfield County. He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Pendley (Elizabeth), and his mother, Beulah Manis (Elbert); his daughter, Penny Benedict; and, his sister, Barbara Wilbanks. Prior to his retirement Gene worked in sales, most recently as a valued team member at PeachState Labs. He also served in the Armed Forces (Army) as a Military Policeman.

Gene will always be remembered by those who knew him for his self-less and sacrificial love for and dedication to his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his family. Gene’s loving wife, Lillie Richards Pendley, survives him. Gene and Lillie were married for forty-nine years. Gene is also survived by his children: Bill Pendley of Bethesda, MD; Wayne Pendley (Gary Skala) of Dallas, TX; and, Tom Pendley (Cami) of Dalton. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Will Pendley, Kara Peninger (Kyle), Austin Benedict, Sara Pendley, Madison Benedict, Carter Pendley, Sydney Pendley, Brady Pendley, and Callie Pendley. These children and grandchildren will hold in their hearts sustaining memories of the acts of love that their father and grandfather shared with them. Gene left a legacy of love with his children and grandchildren for the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. As a former Dalton Catamount, Gene continued his love for Dalton High Football watching his sons play for the Catamounts and also watching his grandchildren.

Gene’s service to his church—the First Baptist Church of Dalton—was a testament of the love that he had for his Lord Jesus Christ. To his Church and to the Kingdom’s work, Gene also gave himself sacrificially. He was a valued member of the Pastor’s Sunday School Class. He assisted on many occasions on missions ventures led by this class, especially those directed to children and families in need in our community. As a Church Usher, each Sunday morning his loving smile and warm handshake greeted Church members who attended the Church’s worship services.

A private funeral service will be held this Saturday, August 8, 2020. The Church will live stream the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. (fbcdalton.org/streaming). The Reverend Dr. Jonathan Barlow, Reverend Phillip Cannon, and Reverend Susan Deal will lead in the service. Burial will follow at Chatsworth Heights Cemetery, Chatsworth, GA.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Dalton (P. O. Box 827, Dalton, GA 30722). You may either sign a guestbook on the website of Love Funeral Home or go by the funeral home personally to sign the guestbook.
