George Townsend Jr.

George Townsend Jr., 90, of Dalton passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Patricia Garrett Townsend and daughter, Sue Langford and grandson, Jon Langford.

Junior was born George Livie Townsend on January 30, 1930 and was raised in Whitfield County. He was the owner and operator of Townsend Appliance for 50 plus years and he enjoyed visiting with his customers and friends at the “shop”. Junior especially enjoyed his very large family, fishing with the grandkids at the watershed and swimming at Pa’s pool. He loved cornbread and buttermilk, eating fried food, Nascar and going to the flea market. Junior was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers and fresh veggies that he shared with everyone he knew. He never met a stranger and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Janie Townsend; three sons, Steve Townsend (Elinor), Greg Townsend (Lisa) and Brad Townsend (Karen); son-in-law, Larry Langford; three step-children, Anita Dockery, Michael Tyree and Jimmy Bryson; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Eric), Mitchell, Meg, Bradley (Blake), Cole, Evan, Melanie (Buckie), Steve (Karen), Kerry (Clay) and Tyler (Bekki); 10 great-grandchildren, CC, Mattie, Hank, Will, Elle, William, Taylor, Tessa, Trey and Teddie Sue.

The family will have a private memorial service to celebrate Junior’s life at a later date.
