Gladys Rogers

Gladys Eaves Rogers, 87, peacefully passed away on March 10 , 2020, with both of her daughters by her side.

Gladys was born on April 17 , 1932 and grew up in Polk County, Tennessee. She was married to Jasper Rogers for over sixty-six years until his death in 2017. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Jordan and Beatrice Eaves, a brother, Leonard Eaves, and a sister, Dorothy (Herman) Morrow, a sister-in-law, Maxine Eaves, and a son-in-law, Darrell Brock.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Patti (Leslie) Waycaster and Beth Brock; her grandchildren, Blake Waycaster, Austin (Beth) Brock, Megan (Mark) Stratton, Tyler Brock and Craig (Sallie) Brock; great-grandchildren, Eli and Houston Brock and McCartney Stratton. Also surviving her are her siblings Floyd (Betty) Eaves and Sandra Eaves, nieces and nephews.

After moving to Dalton in the late 1960’s, Gladys became a school teacher and media specialist in the Whitfield County Schools. She received her post-high school education at (then) Dalton Junior College, Lee University and Georgia State University. Gladys loved teaching and helping others. She was a very faithful member of the Central Church of Christ where she was involved in numerous activities including teaching Sunday school and visiting shut-ins. If the doors were open at church, Gladys was there. Her faith and church family were important to her. She also participated in the meals-on-wheels program as well as supporting foster children. She and Jasper opened their home to so many people. One of the highlights each year was the Easter Egg hunt in their yard with her grandchildren.

Gladys loved gardening and her yard showed it. Here, she also found a way to share with others by helping other aspiring gardeners. She loved to travel. She and Jasper traveled throughout the United States (including Alaska) and Canada. There were also very special trips to Israel and Europe. Gladys (and Jasper) had friends from all walks of life including a life-long group from Cleveland, Tennessee, as well as members of the North Georgia Antique Car Club and Georgia retired Educators Association.

After Jasper’s death, Gladys moved to Dalton Place where she added more friends to her circle. She enjoyed classes on art, exercising and playing bingo until her last days. The family thanks the staff of Dalton Place for helping take care of Gladys in her final years, especially Karen Mowry.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12 , 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Love Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Friday, March 13 , 2020 at 11 a.m., at the Central Church of Christ, with Roger Coffman performing the service. A graveside prayer will take place later the same day in Benton, Tennessee. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Central Church of Christ, 515 North Tibbs Road, Dalton, GA 30720.
