Hazel Robertson Sewell

Hazel Robertson Sewell, 98 of Dalton, went to her heavenly Father on November 27, 2022.

She was born on June 13, 1924, in Rutledge, GA and was the only surviving child of George and Agnes Robertson, who had nine children. Her parents came to America from Scotland in 1901. Hazel graduated from Rutledge High School, Rutledge Georgia and Southern Business University, Atlanta, Georgia. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Rutledge and after moving to Dalton in 1959, was a member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church.

Hazel married Horace Sewell on September 13, 1944. They remained a loving and devoted husband and wife for 77 years. Hazel and Horace have one daughter, Sheila Sewell Riley (John), and one granddaughter, Heather Riley Perrino. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Hazel and Horace travelled to many countries, their favorite being Scotland. Hazel was first generation from Scotland and they visited their Scotland relatives on many occasions. While in Scotland, both Hazel and Horace played many golf courses including the Old Course in St. Andrews.

The family would like to recognize the significant contribution of home caregivers, Shane with Amedisys Hospice, and Karen Smith, PA-C with Dalton Family Practice.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Love Funeral Home. A private burial for family members will also be held where Hazel will be laid to rest next to Horace in West Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Carter Hope Center, 506 East Hawthorne St. Dalton, GA 30721 or to a charity of your choice in memory of Hazel Robertson Sewell.
