Capt. James Walter Brumlow, Jr, (Retired) of Hoover, Alabama passed away on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024, at the age of 85.
Born in Dalton, Ga. on April 21, 1939, he attended several schools in the Dalton, Ga. area excelling in basketball and baseball and graduating in 1958 from Valley Point High School. After graduation he enlisted at 18 years old and then spent 23 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1980 with the rank of Captain. He spent the next 30 years in hospital administration retiring as President and CEO of Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center in Wadsworth, Oh. He moved back to Dalton, Ga before moving to Alabama to be near his sons and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jewell Green Brumlow, Father James Walter Brumlow, Sr., and daughter, Lori Brumlow Ballard. He is survived by his brothers Michael Brumlow (Elaine) of Dalton, Ga and Steve Brumlow of Atlanta, Ga., sons, David Brumlow (Stephanie) of Jasper, Al., and Jeffrey Brumlow (Donna) of Hoover, Al., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Love Funeral Home in Dalton, Ga on Sunday, November 17, 2024, between the hours of 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 PM at West Hill Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post 112. Capt. Brumlow will be laid to rest next to his mother. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Wounded Warriors Foundation in his memory.
