James Anderson (Jim) Mynhier (75) passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Life Care Center of Ooltewah. He was the son of the late Floyd and Clacie Brown Mynhier. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Mynhier and Sam Mynhier.
Jim was born in Scranton, KY and his family moved later to Frenchburg, KY. He graduated from Frenchburg High School and later joined the Job Corps where he learned to operate heavy equipment. Following his time at Job Corps, he was hired by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) where he worked for eleven years. He came to Georgia in the 1980’s to find employment. For several years he worked for the Whitfield County Road Department operating a backhoe. He was later employed by Dalton Public Works, where he worked until his retirement.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Carol Smith Carpenter Mynhier; stepchildren, Beverly Gallagher (Don) of Ooltewah and Norman Carpenter (Tina Maute) of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Spike Mynhier (Carolyn Jones) of Salt Lick,. KY, Curt Mynhier (Linda) of Jeffersonville, KY, and John David Brown of Morehead, KY; sisters, Anna Stamper of Mr. Sterling, KY and Treva Angel also of Mt. Sterling. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
Jim made friends easily and loved talking to people. He had many friends in the Dalton and Ringgold area. He especially enjoyed square dancing with his wife. He loved to listen to gospel songs sung by Elvis Presley. Jim drove an Angel Bus and later a Whitfield County Bus following his retirement.
A memorial service for Jim Mynhier will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Parrish officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service on that day from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Love Funeral Home.
