James Richard "Dick" Lowrey

**A long-delayed Celebration of Life service remembering James Richard (Dick) Lowrey is set for Saturday, June 18, 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, 101 S. Selvidge Street.

James Richard (Dick) Lowrey, 71, died Thursday, March 19 th , 2020, at home following a lengthy illness.

Dick was a Dalton City Councilman for two terms and mayor pro-tem part of that time. He was president of Smith & Green Construction Co. and active in the community on a variety of boards. As a Rotarian, he was a Paul Harris Fellow. An ordained elder in First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, he taught an adult Sunday School class and sang in the church choir. A passion of his, general aviation, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends, introduced him to fellow pilots.

Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Jean Smith Lowrey, and daughter, Kristen Lowrey; his siblings and their spouses comprising Andy and Jan Lowrey of Columbia, S.C.; Wayne and Lynn Lowrey of McDonough, and David and Linda Lowrey Galloway of Marietta. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial gifts may be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, Friendship House Child Care Center or one's favorite charity.

A Celebration of Life service and private graveside services will be scheduled when it is considered safe for the community to gather following concerns over the Coronavirus.
