Jean Stubbs Jones

May 9, 1941 — September 6, 2021

Jean Stubbs Jones passed on September 6, 2021 with her children by her side. She was born May 9, 1941 and reared in Myrtle Beach, SC, the daughter of late Floyd and Gladys Stubbs. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Sherwood Jones, MD, of Dalton and her brother in law, Charles Parham of Dalton.

She attended Coker College before she met the love of her life, Sherwood, on the sunny steps of her church in Myrtle Beach. Always, they agreed that the sun must have been shining through a window in Heaven and from that moment on they knew that God had led them to each other. They were married three months later on Thanksgiving Day 1961. Walking along the beaches of Myrtle Beach and St. Simons Island, GA, collecting seashells and memories were some of the most precious moments they shared together and with the family they built.

In 1964, Jean and her family including two young sons, Sherwood III and Carlton, came to Dalton, GA. Two years later, her daughter Ashley was born. Ever since their first Sunday in Dalton, Jean and her late husband were active members at First Baptist Church of Dalton. Along with being involved in the church community, Jean’s greatest devotion was to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and always wanted them to experience the wonders of God’s Kingdom by sharing her love for the things most overlook, such as the sweet songs of birds, the rich colors of a homegrown garden, and the gentle comfort of laughing together with the ones you love.

There are many ways to depict the way she loved and lived, but the best is to say that those who were fortunate enough to know Jean were fortunate enough to hold on to a piece of Heaven.

Survivors include Sherwood III (Danielle) and their children, Ivy, Garrett, Mincey, and Emani, of Dalton; Carlton (Della) and their daughters, Caroline and Lily, of Atlanta; Ashley Tiede and her daughter, Caitlin, of Dalton; brother, Charles Stubbs (Margaret) of Charlotte, NC; brother, Robert Stubbs (Marie) of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister in law, Emily Earle Parham of Dalton.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday at First Baptist Church of Dalton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 until 1 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Witnesses/Missions Fund at First Baptist Church of Dalton, 311 N Thornton Ave, Dalton, GA 30720.
