Jeanne Louise Burr

September 24, 1926 — May 13, 2020

Jeanne Louise Burr, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 13th, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Marion Von Daacke in 1987 and 1983, her husband William in 2000, and her son William in 2012.

She is survived by her son Jeff and Terese Mitchell, her brother Fred and sister-in-law Nancy, her nieces Kathy Burr, Kristine Murray-Mack, Eileen Graham, her nephews Kirt Von Daacke and Brian Burr, her cousins Liz Bergman and Sylvia Moran, and multiple great-nephews and nieces.

Jeanne was born on September 24, 1926 in Kenmore, New York and was a graduate of Kenmore High.  She attended Rochester Institute of Technology and got her degree in retailing.  In 1949, she married William Burr, whom she had known since high school.

Jeanne and William lived and worked in Cornwall on the Hudson NY, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Cleveland before moving to Dalton in 1965.  William joined J+J Industries in 1969 and worked there until his retirement in 1992.

In 1972, through her friend Ron Arnold at WTTI, Jeanne hosted a radio show called Coffee Time, going out live every weekday from the Dunaway Drugs lunch counter.  Through the decade-long run of the show, she interviewed hundreds of local people and visiting dignitaries, including Jimmy Carter and Betty Ford.

Throughout the years, she worked with such organizations as United Way, Cheerhaven, the Friendship House, Habitat for Humanity and many more.  She, along with her husband, served two tours with the government agency IESC in the Czech Republic and in Russia in the mid-90's.

She loved to travel and meet new people and to put smiles on people's faces. She had many friends in New Smyrna Beach, which she loved to visit.  She was a devoted member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and was an active supporter of the Creative Arts Guild, Dalton State College, the DEO Clinic, Dalton Little Theater and the city of Dalton.

She felt incredibly blessed by her life in Dalton and was very blessed to have so many extraordinary friends in her life.  The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful caring work of Hamilton Hospice, caregiver Michelle Brown and her loyal friend Deborah Defore.

To honor her memory, donations can be made to the Community Foundation in Dalton.  Another way to honor her memory is to go to a certain park in downtown Dalton, when it is safe to do so, and enjoy all of the things that make our incredible diverse city a wonderful place to live.  That is guaranteed to bring a smile to her face.

A celebration to honor Jeanne's life will be held when it is safe to do so.
