Jerry Duane Wallace, 86, of Dalton, passed away peacefully at Hamilton Medical Center Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Duane and Mary Frances Wallace; sister, Jackie Wallace, and brother, Lavon Wallace.
He is survived by his loving devoted wife and best friend of 64 years, Joyce Troglen Wallace of Dalton. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lea Anne Wallace of Savannah; grandchildren, Anne Keese Wallace of Savannah and Wright Wallace of Dallas, Texas; along with six nieces and two nephews whom he loved dearly.
Jerry was born in Rome, Ga, grew up in Rossville Ga, and graduated from Rossville High School. He excelled in sports in his youth where he lettered in football and baseball. After high school, Jerry enlisted in the US Marine Corps serving eight years of both active duty and as a reservist until 1962. While in the Marine Corps, he was stationed in Mount Fuji, Japan shortly after the end of the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Marksmanship Medal along with other service awards. Jerry completed his college studies at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga earning a degree in accounting. He began his business career in Atlanta but returned to Dalton accepting a position at Aladdin Mills, then Mohawk Industries, that spanned 43 years.
Jerry had many hobbies and interests that ranged from woodworking, softball leagues, bowling leagues, chess, and tennis. His most avid pastime was playing golf where he could be found on the course under blue skies, wind, or rain.
Jerry’s life was dedicated to his family whom he supported in countless ways. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He cared deeply about his friends, those that he worked with, his church family, and especially his wife and grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Central Church of Christ of Dalton.
The family would also like to acknowledge the many hands and excellent care that Jerry received at both Dalton Place Community and Hamilton Medical Center. A private family memorial service will be held.
