Jerry Grant Wilburn celebrated his 78th birthday by passing into Heaven on January 7, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rena Cooper and Joe Wilburn; brother, Kenneth Wilburn; parents-in-law, CJ and Zella Friddell.
Jerry was an amateur and professional photographer who was always behind the camera capturing the special moments he shared with others. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dalton and of the Dalton and National Jaycees Organization, where he served as a leader and was awarded a lifetime membership for his service. He worked as a salesman with Coronet Industries for 20 years. Jerry loved following his son, David, in all his sports, band, theater and activities. His granddaughter, Renka, was the star of the show. He and Lynda shared a love of music, and he was an avid Braves fan and supporter of Tennessee and Georgia Football. Jerry encountered many struggles in his later life for about 15 years. He was a member of AA, NA, and Celebrate Recovery, where he met many friends that he considered his special family. Only with God’s help and his commitment was he able to live a better life and find happiness with his church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lynda “Friddle” Wilburn; Son, David Wilburn (Iai); granddaughter, Renka Hayatsu-Wilburn; sister-in-law, Sharon Wilburn; brothers-in-law, Tom Friddell (Vera), Bill Farrar and Gene Kelly; several nieces, nephews and special first cousins; dear family friends, Joe and Brandi Pruett and Lyn Dewsnap.
The family would like to thank Quinton Memorial Health and Rehabilitation and all the employees that gave both Lynda and Jerry above and beyond love during his illnesses.
Memorial services will be held at 1 PM on Friday at First Baptist Church of Dalton with the Dewey Hughes Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 12 until 1 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Dalton, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
