Jewell Souther Breeden

Jewell Souther Breeden, age 93, passed away January 11, 2022 at Pleasant Valley Personal Care in Dalton, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Doyle Breeden; her parents, Doug and Cora Souther; brothers Wallace Souther, J.B. Souther, Ralph Souther, and Bobby Souther; sisters Syble Grasso and Grace Wilson; and her mother-in-law Hattie Breeden "Granny".Jewell was born on April 14, 1928 in the Deep Springs community.  Jewell attended high school in Varnell, Ga where she played on the school basketball team and caught the eye of her coach, Doyle Breeden.  After her graduation in 1945, they were married on October 26, 1945 and was inseparable until his death in October 2009.  Jewell was a wonderful southern cook and loved to feed anyone who entered her home.  Her specialty was her homemade pound cake which she made often and shared generously with others.  Jewell also worked tirelessly to help others, and many people benefited from her selfless spirit throughout the years.  No one knows more about this selflessness than her family.  She was devoted to her family and loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren- and feeding them, of course.
She is survived by her son, Don Breeden (Betty Jo); her daughter, Carol DeMarco (Jim); grandchildren Jessica Harris and Michael DeMarco; great grandchildren Jake and Manny Harris.  She is also survived by her sisters Mae Bearden and Gladys Wilson and sister-in-law Brenda Souther.

The funeral service will be held Saturday January 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Varnell United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Branscomb officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 until the funeral hour.  Masks will be required for both the visitation and the service at the request of the family due to Covid concerns.  Burial will be in the Varnell Cemetery.
