Jewell Hurst

March 9, 1918 — March 22, 2020

Jewell Hurst of Dalton, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, March 22, 2020, just 13 days after celebrating her 102 birthday.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dalton for over 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and N.M. Favors; husband, Dan Hurst; son, Michael Hurst; brother, N.M. Favors Jr.; sisters, Mabel McCurdy, Helen Dorman, Ninette Chapman, and Miriam Parrott.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Joe Johnson; daughter-in-law, Jackie Hurst; grandchildren, Joe Johnson, Sherry (Steve) Gadra, Kris Hiland, Branen (Katherine) Hurst, Spencer Hurst, and Lauren (Patrick) O’Ferrall; great grandchildren, Kayla Johnson, Daniel Gadra, Rachel Gadra, Ethan Hiland, Chandler Hiland, Payne Hurst, Jack Hurst, Wren Hurst, Cannon Hurst, Brinley O’Ferrall, Asher O’Ferrall, Preston O’Ferrall, Katelyn O’Ferrall, and Abby O’Ferrall; special nieces and nephews.

The family expresses deepest appreciation to our devoted caregivers and friends at Dalton Place for their five years of love and service to their oldest resident, the staff at Cracker Barrel who affectionately called her “Miss Jewell, the pickled beet lady” and to Tapestry Hospice for easing her last few days of life.

Due to current health concerns, there will be no visitation and the family will have a private graveside service where she will be laid to rest beside her husband in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
