In loving memory of Mr. Jon Roger Jewell, 89, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Dalton, Georgia. Born on February 9, 1934, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was a cherished son of the late William Fred and Lucille Elizabeth Deal Jewell.
Roger had a fulfilling life, contributing his skills to the textile industry for 25 years, and dedicating the last 20 working years working for the Kroger Company. Throughout his journey, he found joy in family and community. A man of strong faith, Roger was an active member of First Baptist Church of Dalton for 58 years. He served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and along with his wife Barbara by his side, participated in Meals on Wheels, and visiting the many shut-ins, positively impacting the lives of many throughout the community. Roger and Barbara were well known for sending birthday cards and singing happy birthday to all those they cared about. Beyond his commitment to the church, Roger enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, rooting for the Braves and coaching girls fast-pitch softball.
Roger leaves behind his devoted wife of 69 years, Barbara Jo Lamb Jewell, and their loving sons and their spouses: Jon and Susan Jewell Jr., Rusty and Kristin Jewell, Mike and Beth Jewell, Alan and Becky Jewell, and Stan and Lisa Jewell. His legacy extends to 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A service to honor and celebrate Roger's remarkable life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Dalton. The family will receive friends in the church atrium from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to be made to the Greater Works Food Ministry and First Baptist Men’s Prayer breakfast, causes that were close to Roger's heart. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
