Joyce Ellis Blevins of Rocky Face, Georgia, passed away on January 6, 2021, after a toughfought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 87.
Born July 31, 1933, in Fentress County, TN, she was the big sister to two younger brothers, and the daughter of a dairy farmer. Known fondly through the years as “Granny,” she was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, married to her ‘Jim’ for 65 years. She was a devote homemaker, who also helped run J&J Kountry Store in the Armathwaite, TN, community for many years, before moving to Dalton, GA in 1986. Raised in the Baptist church, she was a God-fearing woman who loved her family, reading, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She always worked hard to provide for her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Granny also loved her collection of owls, the Atlanta Braves and a good southern-cooked meal, preferably her own chicken and dumplings, but enjoyed the occasional basket of fried chicken from KFC.
She is preceded in death by husband, James O. Blevins; son, Michael Blevins; parents, D. E. Ellis and Maxine Goad Ellis; brothers, Kerry Ellis and Gene Ellis.
She is survived by four children and spouses: Ron and Cathy Blevins; Gary and Ivy Blevins; Peggy and Brian Fair; and Steve Blevins; along with countless grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Linda Ellis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Granny will be missed by all those who loved her most, and we look forward to the day we can see her again.
