Kathy Lynn Holloway

July 25, 1950 — October 22, 2023

Kathryn Stanley Holloway (Kathy), of Chatsworth, Georgia, passed away on October 22 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA.  Kathy, 73, was surrounded by her adoring family as she seceded to an extended battle with cancer.

Preceded in death by her parents, Jetter and Willie Mae Stanley, Kathy was blessed to be one of seven sisters. When Kathy arrived in 1950, her parents already had three little girls. Unfortunately, the year Kathy was born her sister Arita, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. With a newborn and a dying toddler, Kathy's mother had to be an exceptionally strong and resourceful mother to give these four children a loving and cherished home life. Arita and an infant boy passed away when Kathy was three.

Kathy's dad co-owned and operated a Texaco station in downtown Dalton. Her mother was a homemaker.  Over the course of 10 years, there were seven little girls. They lived in a charming white house in Dawnville, GA. With a large yard and an unattached playhouse, these little girls spent hours and hours playing Red Rover, Swinging Beauty, and Mother May I. These sisters were each other’s best friends. After a wonderful childhood, each sister married. With a combined 18 children, mates and grandchildren, there are now 65 Stanley family members. Thanksgiving, Christmas, sister birthday dinners, and sister Christmas ornament party dinners are all cherished memories.

In the late 1960s Kathy's dad bought land on the Toccoa River and moved his family to Blue Ridge, GA. He built a grocery store across from the Shallowford Bridge. There, Kathy met her soul mate, Benny Holloway, and he would be by her side for 52 years. Benny and Kathy married on June 3, 1972 and started their little family on the Toccoa River. Later, moving to Chatsworth, GA, Haley, Heather, Sidney, and Joshua had a life many children could only dream of. Kathy was an amazing cook. Like her mother, she could provide a 4-course meal from almost nothing.  Her tea cakes were her specialty.

As their children grew, Kathy and Benny became involved in the North Georgia Bible Camp. For over 30 years, they were involved in every aspect of the camp: board members, secretary, cook, camp director, treasurer, and activities director.  Providing a safe, Christian environment for all children was their calling.  After her children moved on to higher education, Kathy's passion moved from children to adult literacy.   For over 15 years, she made a tremendous impact in helping adults gain their GED.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Benny Holloway and their four children: Haley Nichols, and her husband, Jim, of Lynchburg, VA; Heather Tucker, and her husband, Jonathan, of Manchester, TN; Sidney Holloway, and his wife, Jen, of Talking Rock, GA, and Joshua Holloway, and his wife, Katie, of Rocky Face, GA.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gracie, Peyton, and Presley Nichols; Riley and Raelin Tucker; Sheldon and Hudson Holloway; and Ben Holloway.  She also leaves behind six sisters: Minnie Anderson of Dalton, GA; Shirley Jones of Ellijay, GA; Wilma Weaver of Chatsworth, GA; Connie Shepherd of Dalton, GA; Marilyn Silvers of Crandall, GA; and Shelia Baker of Rocky Face, GA.

The family would like to thank Kathy’s oncologist, Dr. Hossam Saad Naguib for his years of devotion to Kathy and the family in her battles with cancer.  Also, the nurses and caregivers at Hamilton Medical Center, who showed such love and care for Kathy and Benny during her multiple hospital stays.

Her church family at Chatsworth Church of Christ deserves an abundance of gratitude for the love and support they have showered upon Benny and Kathy during this time.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Monday evening, October 23, at Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Avenue, Dalton, GA from 4:00 to 7:00.  A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, October 24, at 1:00 with Terry Stuart officiating.  Burial will be at Boardtown Church of Christ in Cherry Log, GA.
