Maria Del Carmen Luna, known as Carmen by her friends and family, transitioned peacefully to heaven at her home surrounded by her family on October 10, 2023, after a courageous and well-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Wblester Martinez Sr. and Petra Martinez. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Antonio Luna Sr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and Daniel Lawson, Vanessa Luna and Uriel Saucedo; son and daughter-in-law, Antonio Luna Jr. and Dulce Luna, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Iris and Daniel Lawson Jr., Anabelle, Aaden, and Aaron Saucedo, and Divina Luna, who were the joy and light of her life. Carmen is also survived by her siblings: Wblester Martinez Jr., Antonio Martinez, Pete Martinez, Damacio Martinez, Maria Dolores Martinez, Aida Delgado, Tavo Martinez, Juan Cat Martinez, and Margarita Martinez, all of San Perlita, TX. She also leaves behind brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Carmen was born on April 9,1964, in San Perlita, TX. She was a proud Texan who enjoyed listening to country music that reminded her of home and her days in San Perlita. Carmen moved to Dalton, GA with her husband in the late 80’s. Here she made a life and built her home and family and watched them grow. Later she became a grandma. Carmen loved being “Grandma Luna” to her six (6) grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them, especially on family beach trips. Being with her family is what she lived for. She loved them fiercely and was there for them at any moment in time. When asked what Carmen loved most, she would answer, “My family!”, however some would argue that it was in fact the Christmas season that she loved most. The Christmas tree set up as early as possible, glowing Christmas lights strung outside her home, and her nativity scene fully displayed supported just that. She leaves behind an enormous void for all those who knew her. But she will live on through her family legacy and will be remembered with the twinkling of the holiday decorations, the song of the birds she loved to watch, and in the melodies of a country song.
Services to celebrate the life of Carmen are as follows: The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 4:00pm-8:00pm, Saturday, October 14, 2023, in the Parlor of Love Funeral Home, and a funeral service on Sunday October 15, 2023, at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Pastor Edgar Rincon officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice of Dalton, Tennessee Oncology, and to the numerous friends and family members who have showed their love and support.
