Mary Ann Hamilton, formerly of Dalton, GA, died Sunday, November 8th in West Chester, OH. She was 88 years old. Mary Ann was born in Chicago, Illinois. She was a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. During her studies, Mary Ann wrote and illustrated a children's story which she kept and later read to her own children. Through her frequent family moves during her early years, Mary Ann eventually found herself residing in the South. While living in Chattanooga, TN, Mary Ann worked as reporter for the Chattanooga Free Press where she covered local stories and interviewed celebrities. In 1956, she married George Lane Hamilton, a life-long Dalton resident. Together they raised a loving family for their entire lives in Dalton, GA. Mary Ann was an accomplished pianist and often played in church and for local entertainment events with her friends. She loved to travel and found excitement in exploring beautiful and interesting destinations. Mary Ann was also very creative and enjoyed interior decorating. She saw the wonder in the world and enjoyed observing birds and collecting colorful leaves during the Fall season. Mary Ann found joy in seeing the details in God's Creation.

Mary Ann is survived by her brother Dr. Richard Gibbs (Willana) of Grand Rapids, MN; two daughters, Mary Ann Cancelleri (David) of Phoenix, AZ and Jane Elizabeth Arteaga (Marcelo) of Gainesville, GA; two sons, George Lane Hamilton, Jr. (Mary) of Marietta, GA and Benjamin Carter Hamilton (Erin) of Liberty Township, OH; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 14th, at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Love Funeral Home in Dalton, GA.
