Mary Jane Chitwood

Mary Jane Chitwood passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at The Gardens @ Royal Oaks.  She was known only as Sug by a host of friends and classmates.  She was a graduate of Dalton High School, class of 1950; and later, a graduate of The Herring Business School.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Economy Rug Company, the family business, for many years, then later was a dedicated homemaker, her labor of love.  Daily contact with her family and friends balanced out her life.

Mary Jane is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, W. B. (Mooney), who passed on January 16, 2024; her mother, Lillian Tibbs McClure; her brothers, John T. McClure (Barbara), William Frank McClure (Elaine); and sister, Marjorie Aileen Howard (Harry).

Mary Jane is survived by her children, Barnett, Jr. (Twinkle), Kim Bramlett (Randy), and Scott.  Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren, Colter Chitwood (Anna), Connor Chitwood (Molly), Lance Bramlett (Addie), Lindsey Sims (Andy), and seven great-grandchildren, Madison Chitwood, Bridger and Rollins Chitwood, Deklan and McKenna Bramlett, and Caroline and Olivia Sims.  She is further survived by nieces and nephews, and a very close life-long friend, Evelyn Lowery.

The family extends special thanks and gratitude to the dedicated caregivers, Ashley Love, Lalaine Laura, Ana S. Perez, Hadiyah (Dee) Ar-Rahmaan, Gaye McKenzie, and Staci Rogers for ten months of care, kindness, and compassion.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home, Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  and the service and committal will be held immediately after in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Amspaugh officiating.  Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, 1000 Sheriffs’ Way, Madison, GA  30605.
