Melinda Long Trotter

Ms. Melinda Long Trotter, 73, of Dalton passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Reflections of Tranquilty.

She was the daughter of the late Robert Scholze and Barbara Watkins Long and was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert (Robin) Scholze Long II, Michael Watkins Long, Sim Perry Long; and nephews, Patrick Paul Long and Jason Eric Long.

After a successful career with the Georgia Lottery, she moved to Nashville to help start the Tennessee Lottery. There she found a church home at Oasis Community Church where she spent countless hours doing what God created her to do- serving others. She found joy in serving the homeless hot meals through “Under the Bridge Ministries”. She also enjoyed greeting at her church and and all the outreach efforts helping the impoverished children in area schools. Once retiring from the TN Lottery and real estate, she moved back home to Dalton to be with her family. She rejoined DFUMC where she sang in the choir and Sounds of Joy. Her time was also filled with supporting and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She loved people well and set Godly examples for all she was around. Her tireless passion to serve others was evident in her life. As a breast cancer survivor from the past, she showed she was a fighter until the end. A job well done, she leaves a legacy of love that will sustain us all until we meet her again in Heaven.

Melinda is survived by the father of her children, Steve Trotter of Soddy Daisy, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Stephen Trotter Jr. and Crystal of Crandall; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Trotter Wagner and Tiger of Dalton; grandchildren, Joshua Trotter, Breanna Trotter, Luke Wagner and London Wagner; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Teagan Person; nieces and nephews, Matthew Long, Bethany Pendleton and Robbie Long.

Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from Stage 123 at RockBridge Community Church with Pastor Matt Evans and Jennifer Ranson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 until 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at Stage 123 on Sunday.
