Mrs. Millicent Bookout Smith, aged 102.3 passed away on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at her residence.
Born in Murray County, GA on March 11 th , 1920. She was the only child of the late Albert Clinton Bookout and Dorris Hicks Bookout. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith on December 15 th , 1989.
Survivors include her daughter, Janine Smith Leonard of Dalton, GA, and her granddaughter Krista Leonard of Canton, GA. Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and her newest friend Pam Green, also survive.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Cohutta High School in 1936, West GA College and the University of Chattanooga. She will be remembered as a teacher in both the Whitfield and Dalton City Schools.
She was a member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church since 1949 and was president of the Olivia Gaines Sunday school class for many years. She held membership in both State and Local Retired Teachers Organizations, and membership in the Kappa Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa, Honorary Teachers Sorority. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Dalton Lions Auxiliary, Lena Judd Womans Club, and a Charter member of the Private Drewry R. Smith Chapter UDC. Mrs. Smith was also a Red Cross Volunteer at Hamilton Medical Center for more than 30 years.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 at the Whitfield Memorial Gardens pavilion. Due to the current health care crisis the family requests that all attending the service please wear a mask.
