Norma Greer Crawley, 73, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away at her home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, following a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. In her final hours, Norma was surrounded with endless love, family and friends.
Born Norma Greer, on April 23, 1950, alongside twin sister Rita Greer (Kancel), to parents James and Tom Greer, she was raised in Dalton, Georgia. Norma grew up in a tight-knit youth group at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, which afforded her deep friendships and wonderful memories.
A 1968 graduate of Dalton High School, Norma is remembered by friends for her warmth and quick wit!
Norma went on to graduate from the University of Georgia in 1972, and she remained a die-hard Georgia Bulldogs fan for the remainder of her life.
Following graduation, Norma took a job in Dothan, Alabama, where she met future husband, Bill Crawley. The two were married at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Dalton, Georgia. The two went on to have daughter, Mary, in 1980, and son, Matthew, in 1982, and, through Bill’s management position at Michelin Tire Co, the family lived in Nova Scotia, Canada, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
Norma was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and friend.
She loved countless sweets; peanut M&Ms, Ferrero Rocher, and Cadbury crème eggs - just to name a few!
Norma also found great joy through music; ‘At Last,’ by Etta James, ‘Morning has Broken,’ by Cat Stevens, and, most notably, ‘Moment of Forever,’ by Willie Nelson.
Norma is survived by her beloved dogs, Monkey and Homer; husband, Bill Crawley, of the home; son, Matthew Crawley, of Las Vegas; daughter, Mary Crawley, of Dalton; stepson, Will Crawley, of Florida; grandson, Aidan Crawley, of Dalton; granddaughters, Isabella and Rosie Celaya; granddaughters, Ferrell and Fiona Crawley; great-granddaughter, Andalucia Crawley, and great-grandson, Samson Crawley. Norma is also survived by twin sister, Rita Greer Kancel, of Kansas.
Services will be held in Dalton, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11:00am. A reception will be held in the church parrish hall 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church columbarium following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Outreach Fund.
