Paul Combee (Coach) Bagby, 75, of Dalton, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Cartersville Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Mary Bagby; brothers, Robert Bagby and John Fred Bagby; and sisters, Ann Mitchell and Cathy Whalen.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan; his daughters, Marilyn (Kendall) Cameron of Cumming and Susan (Stephen) Davenport of Carrollton; his brother, David (Irma) Bagby of Tullahoma, TN; and his grandchildren, Mason Kowalski, Morgan Nixon, Chase Griffin, Carson Summers, Abigail Davenport, and Andrew Davenport. Multiple nieces and nephews also survive.
Paul, lovingly known by most as “Coach,” was born on December 29, 1945, in Dalton, GA. He received his undergraduate degree and played baseball at Reinhardt College. He later received his Masters Degree in Education at West Georgia College (University of West Georgia.) He was employed by Dalton Public Schools and retired after 30+ years of teaching with a heart full of love and memories of his students and athletes. He loved being “Coach.” He enjoyed fishing and owned Coach’s Custom Rods. In retirement he also, taught Sunday school at Trinity United Methodist Church, and volunteered for The Miracle League of Whitfield County. He loved his wife and family and looked forward to time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10 at 3:00 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or to Camp ASCCA, PO Box 21, Jacksons Gap, AL 36861 or www.campascca.org, where these tax deductible donations will be used for their fishing program for children and adults with disabilities.
