Peggy Elaine McClure, 89, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. A resident of Dalton, GA, she was born to Carl and Omie Smith in Rome, GA. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years William Frank McClure, parents, sisters Leona Craig (Calvin) of Newnan, GA, and Lorena Rabideaux (David) of Decatur, GA.
She is survived by her daughter Candace McClure Wagner (Jens) and grandson Breck Wagner, who was the light of her life. She is further survived by her sister, Marci Guy (Claude) of Flowery Branch GA; sister in-law, Mary Jane Chitwood of Dalton; brother-in-law David Rabideaux; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Elaine was a devoted wife and mother. She was a dedicated member of East Side Baptist Church, where for over three decades she poured her heart into teaching the children’s Sunday school class, being an active choir member, and WMU member. She placed enthusiasm into instilling the values of love, compassion, and faith. Her selflessness and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and heard and offering comfort and encouragement. She enjoyed making her legendary cream cheese pecan pies as a gesture of love to lift the spirits of those in need. Throughout her life, she was always ready with a joke or a comforting laugh that could ease any worry. Her sense of humor was not only her personal trademark, but also a beacon of warmth and kindness. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
The family would like to thank the following who have helped to care for Elaine these past few years: Dalton Square Senior Living, Advent Health Gordon of Calhoun, GA, Home Spun Hospice, and, especially beloved nephew, Barnett Chitwood, Jr. They made her transition to her heavenly home, peaceful, and full of love.
Please join her family in a celebration of life on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Love Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 and the funeral service will be held immediately after in the chapel of Love Funeral Home.
