R. Carter Pittman, Jr., 84, born January 8,1940 of Dalton passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte Pruden Pittman and R. Carter Pittman, Sr. and sister, Jane Pittman Lieberman.
Carter graduated from Dalton High School in 1959, where he played football. He attended West Georgia, Reinhardt, and the University of Georgia.
He was a member of the Dalton Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and a past President of the Dalton Civitan Club and the NWGA Region Antique Automobile Club of America. Carter owned, managed and worked for many businesses throughout the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and had a great sense of humor. He was known to his grandchildren as “Big Daddy” and was a UGA fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Harriet; children, Debra Dickerson (Riley), R. Carter Pittman, III, and Guy Pittman (Sharon); grandchildren, Kalyn Ridgeway (Tyler), Charlie Dickerson, and Guyton Pittman (Davina); great-granddaughter, Stella Ridgeway; sister, Carol Tipton (Joanne Thompson); sisters-in-law Vicki Casares (Paul) and Cindy Beasley (Del); several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 on Wednesday, April 17th at Love Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 12 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers: Riley Dickerson, Paul Casares, Del Beasley, Tyler Ridgeway, Guyton Pittman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the National Kidney Foundation, or to one’s favorite charity.
