Rita Norville

Rita Myra Norville died at Hamilton Medical Center on Saturday, December 7th in Dalton, Georgia at the age of 85.

Rita is survived by her sister Ann (Wayne) Weaver Newsome of Henagar, Alabama, son Bryan (Maria) Grizzell, of Atlanta, Georgia; and her grandchild Gavin Grizzell. She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Watson Weaver, her mother Ruby Colvard Weaver and her brothers, Kent (Francis) Weaver and Porter (Wilma) Weaver, and her husbands, Doyle Joe Grizzell and Zachary Samuel Norville. She also has nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews, as well as step-nieces, step-nephews, and step-great nieces/nephews.

Born on July 24, 1939, in Rainsville, Alabama, Rita graduated from Sylvania High School in 1957, and from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Music. She taught and directed Choral Music, and briefly the Band for several High Schools, including Geraldine High School and Walter Welborn High School in Alabama before moving to Dalton to teach at Dalton High School in the same capacity.  She retired from teaching in 1977 after marrying Zach Norville.

She was accomplished Vocalist and musician who played numerous instruments, with a concentration on Piano performance. She served as accompanist for the Youth Choir and long term member of the Chancel Choir at Dalton First United Methodist Church.

A funeral service for Rita will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home, with Rev. Brian Clark officiating.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, December 13th, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rita’s honor to the Hamilton Hearing Center (formerly the John W. Looper Speech and Hearing Center).  Donations may be sent to 1410 Chattanooga Ave, Dalton GA 30720.
