Robert "Bob" Lewis

Robert (Bob) Martin Lewis of Dalton, age 86, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 7, 2019. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born March 5, 1933 in East Point to Belle Martin and Henry R. Lewis. A graduate of Russell High School and the Georgia Institute of Technology, Bob earned an MBA from Georgia State University. His education at Georgia Tech was interrupted by service in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was commissioned and awarded navigator wings. His military career was extended with service in the Active Air Force Reserve and Georgia Air National Guard until he retired in 1983 as a Lt. Colonel and a Master Navigator.

Bob’s business career included work with the Union Carbide, Ethyl and Albemarle Corporations, primarily in sales and marketing of plastics and specialty chemicals. He was a lifelong Presbyterian, joining Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs in 1979 where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir. After Bob’s wife of 45 years, Patricia Erwin Lewis, died of cancer, he remarried and is survived by his wife, Frances (Fran) Jones Lewis of Dalton. Other survivors include the children of his first marriage, Robert M. Lewis, Jr., and wife, Lori, of Loganville; Beth Douglas and husband, Bill, of Dunwoody; and Marti Schwab and husband, Steve, of Tavares, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Madison Stanley and Joy Blea. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Selvidge St., Dalton, GA 30720. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made either to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund, PO Box 489, Dalton, GA 30722 where Bob was a member and sang in the choir or to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
