Ronald "Ron" Johnson

Ronald “Ron” Johnson, a long-time resident of Dalton, GA died peacefully on December 8, 2022 at the age of 85 at Hamilton Medical Center in the presence of his wife and daughter.

Ron is survived by his wife, Karen T. Johnson; his children, Christa (Andy) Meyer of Ringgold, GA and Shawn (Mary) Johnson of San Jose, CA; brother, Roger Johnson of Lavonia, Michigan; in-laws, Jimmy (Flora) Tucker of Tallulah, LA, Denise (Charlie) O’Dell of Washington, IN and Tommy (Ceal) Tucker of Martinsville, IN; step-granddaughter, Emily Meyer of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Hubert and Pauline Johnson of Morristown, Indiana; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Linda Johnson of Morristown, Indiana; father and mother-in-law, James and Grace Tucker of Washington, Indiana.

Ron was born in Madison County to Hubert and Pauline Johnson, they later moved to Morristown, Indiana where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Karen (Tucker) Johnson, they were married for 61 years.

Ron graduated from Purdue University with his Master’s degree and he and Karen lived in California and North Carolina before settling in Dalton, GA in 1972.  He worked for Conagra Poultry as Quality Control Manager for 25 years before retiring.  Ron could never sit around or keep still so he helped build houses and eventually did odd jobs on his own. He could fix anything and tended to the family and house diligently.

Ron was born to serve, he worked with the Boy Scouts Troop 2 for over 20 years, receiving the ‘Silver Beaver Award’ in 2005 for his service.  He also served as a deacon, elder, and head usher for ChristChurch Presbyterian for several decades. Ron always put others before himself and was there in times of need always.  He will be missed by family, many friends, and all who knew him.

His family would like to thank all of the staff at Walnut Creek Personal Care home for their dedicated and heartfelt care of Ron this past year.

Visitation will take place from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 11 ^th at ChristChurch Presbyterian on Tibbs Road, followed by a celebration of life service at 4 p.m. The Reverend Eric D. Geil will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NWGA Council Boy Scouts of America PO Box 1422 Rome, GA 30161 or to ChristChurch Presbyterian 510 S. Tibbs Road, Dalton, GA 30720.
