Sara Ann Proffitt Masters, 96, of Dalton, passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, entering the eternal presence of her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ joining beloved family members and friends waiting for her homecoming. Sara Ann was born in Dalton on January 20, 1928, to the late J.R. and Floried Adams Proffitt. In addition to her parents, Sara Ann is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Haynes Masters; her grandson, Joshua Carl Haynes Lester; and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Jack and Joyce Proffitt.
Sara Ann is survived by her daughters, Nancy Masters-Lester and Sally Yarbrough; grandson, William Awbrey Yarbrough; great-grandson, Memphis Masters Lester; nephews and nieces, Father Rocki and Margaret (Boo) Proffitt and Terry and Sally Proffitt; and special friend and companion, Pam Snowden. Great nieces also survive along with their families.
Sara Ann was a faithful long-time member of First Baptist Church of Dalton where she served regularly and faithfully on several committees and ministry teams. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Sara Ann was also an active member of our community volunteering in a variety of capacities. She especially loved playing bridge with her friends and being a member of the Garden Club. More than anything else, Sara Ann will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who brought joy to the lives of everyone she encountered.
Sara Ann’s family would like to express their appreciation to Paula Cavender and Community Hospice and to Sara Ann’s caregivers, Dorenda Moore, Elenore Jackson, Mary Lou Hayes, Beth Dunsmore, Dorothy Beck, Eddie Mae Moore, Betty Jackson and Sandra Tibbs for the love and compassion that they showed to Sara Ann.
Funeral services for Sara Ann Masters will be held in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Dalton on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the Church prior to the funeral service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Dalton (P.O. Box 827, Dalton, GA 30722), the Humane Society of NWGA (hsnwga.org), or to one’s favorite charity.
