Sara Kate Spann Steele

Mrs. Sara Kate Spann Steele, age 91, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021. She was born December 7, 1929, in Dalton, GA, the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Spann of Calhoun, GA and Annie Obera Rogers Felker of Painton, MO.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Steele Sr, and her brother, Thomas Wesley Spann, Jr.

Sara Kate graduated from Dalton High School.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.  She was a special friend to many.

She was an active member of Grove Level Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for over 30 years.  She loved children, and many people fondly remember her taking care of their children during those years.  She loved flowers, and she was an avid Georgia Tech fan along with her husband.  She was an excellent cook, and she loved to cook and bake for her family and others.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Wayne Lomax of Lawrenceville, GA, Anna and Alan Weeks of Cohutta, GA, and Kris and J.R. Haynes of Dalton, GA; sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert E Jr. and Janet Steele of Dalton, GA, David and Shelah Steele of Dalton, GA, Billy and Sissy Steele of Cedartown, GA, and Jimmy Steele of Dalton GA; brother-in-law, Bill Dalton of Tulsa, OK, and sister-in-law, Faye Martin of Byron, GA; five granddaughters, Laurie and David Digby of Dacula, GA, Wendy and Tony Elrod of Rocky Face, GA,  Robin and Jessie Tomes of Cumming, GA, Erin and Kyle Chewning of Buford, GA and Meredith and Caleb Castleman of Ringgold, GA; two grandsons, Lance and Becky Layson of Lawrenceville, GA and Conner Layson of Sandy Springs, GA; step grandchildren, Savannah and James Coots of Chatsworth, GA, Greg and Angela Starks of Loganville, GA, Angie Moorehead of Dalton, GA, and Matt and Jessie Johnson of Livingston, AL; great grandchildren, Elisa and Emily Digby, Ava, Maddox and Asher Layson, Adeline Tomes, Sara Kate and Will Elrod, Jack, Jon, and Mary Kate Chewning, and Annie Castleman; step great grandchildren, Alicia and Shane Sell. Brandon Hardy, Annica and Dawn Starks, Easton, Emerson, Abram and Liam Johnson, and Carson, Chloe and Noah Gordon.

Services will be Tuesday, November 9 ^th at 3:00 at Grove Level Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Bridges and Reverend Mike King officiating.  Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery.  Receiving of friends will be at Love Funeral Home on Monday, November 8 ^th from 5:00-8:00.
