On December 18th, Scot Kirk LaVelle was called to heaven, surrounded by loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Christine; his sister, Brenda; his brother, Blair; and his children, Alex, Meredith, William, and Evelyn.
He was born on June 21st, 1955, in Medina, OH, to Gene LaVelle and Cynthia LaVelle-Pahl. He received an education through the Ohio and Georgia school systems before pursuing higher education in English, Spanish, and marketing. After school, he worked with the American Cancer Society, a job that gave him the experience to help both himself and his loved ones with cancer throughout his life. He went on to found Niche Graphic Flooring, Mold Hold Inc., and Insightfully Brilliant to provide for his beloved family, both his literal one and the one he found among his employees. As a member of First Baptist Church, he took great pride in his mission trips to Jamaica and Kenya, and his assistance in videography for sermons. Scot took his faith, his ingenuity, and his endless love for people everywhere he went. He was a Moses, parting red tape to help those in pursuit of a better life. He was a teacher, sharing his hard-won knowledge and experience with those in search of guidance. He was a dreamer, seeing not always what was in front of him, but the boundless potential of it. But above all, he was a light in a dark and often confusing world; and he is resting easy now, secure in the knowledge that his light lives on in those who had the fortune to know him.
In that spirit, in lieu of flowers, his family asks that to show support, donations be made to Whitfield Health Foundation for the Peeples Cancer Institute at PO Box 2584, Dalton, GA 30722, or to First Baptist Church of Dalton at PO Box 827, Dalton, GA 30722.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday December 21 at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
