Shirley Fromm

June 9, 1937 — March 29, 2024

Shirley Fromm died peacefully at the age of 86 in her home surrounded by her family on March 29, 2024. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan on June 9, 1937.  Shirley was the first in her family to pursue higher education by obtaining her Diploma in nursing from Henry Ford Hospital. She worked as a nurse in San Francisco General Hospital where a serendipitous encounter (meeting Stefan) set the course for her extraordinary life journey.

Shirley was a beloved wife of almost 63 years to her devoted husband, Stefan.  Shirley lived a life filled with boundless love, unwavering courage, and an adventurous spirit. Her nurturing nature knew no bounds as she dedicated herself to raising her children with kindness, patience, and laughter.  She was a committed Christian who lived out her faith by always being ready to serve.  She knew no strangers and modeled for us that “anyone that enters the doorway is a welcomed guest.”

A true adventurer at heart, Shirley embraced life’s challenges with grace and determination. From camping trips under the stars to spontaneous road trips across the country, she instilled in her family a love for exploration and discovery.

Her legacy of love, strength and sacrifice will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Shirley’s memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, reminding us to embrace each moment with joy and to cherish the bonds of family and friendship.

Though she may have embarked on her greatest adventure yet, Shirley’s spirit and smile will forever remain a guiding light for those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in her life’s journey.

Shirley is survived by her five children, Terrie Jones (Kent) of Kampala, Uganda; Steve Fromm (Corinna) of Jasper; Rick Fromm (Samantha) of Dalton; Mike Fromm (Kim) of Dalton; and Sandi Calloway of Dalton. Also, her 19 grandchildren; Tiffany Jones Loomis (Kyle); Lindsey Jones Poletti (Chris); Russell Jones; James Fromm; Whitney Fromm Dewey (Ryan); Katherine Fromm Cashon (Jake); Hannah Fromm Gunzner (Aaron); Joshua Fromm; Micah Fromm; Bethany Fromm; Reagan Fromm (Brad McGovern); Ethan Fromm; Colton Fromm; Sheridan Fromm; Shelby Fromm; Skylar Fromm; Trace Calloway; Tyler Calloway; Tatum Calloway; and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Judie Natke (Dave) and Alan Burgy (Diane). She was preceded in death by her husband, Stefan H. Fromm, her parents, Alfred and Dolly Burgy, and her sister, Nancy Blanchard.

Her family would like to thank the excellent care she received from her caregivers over the past year: Kelly Cochran, Nina Searels, Kat Gresham, Marley Thomas, Latisha Thomas, April Starling, Kitty Beck as well as Dana Keene, her hairdresser.  Shirley and the family were grateful for the love and commitment shown by those who selflessly supported her and the family during times of need.  Their compassionate care provided comfort, strength and peace, leaving an indelible mark on Shirley’s heart and the hearts of her loved ones.
