Starling "Lamar" Elrod, Sr.

Starling “Lamar” Elrod, Sr., 82, of Dalton passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his father, Starling Elrod, sister, Beverly Elrod Rogers and nephew, Bobby Elrod.

Lamar loved his family more than anything. He always made sure that they knew he loved them and that they were all taken care of. Lamar was well known in the community both as a businessman and a friend. He had a huge heart and anyone that knew him loved him. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. So much so that in his younger days that was what he was called, Smiley, a nickname that stayed with him his entire life. Lamar also loved his beloved cows and his farm. He liked hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife, especially to their special place on the river in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elrod; children, Lori Collins (Jeff), Teri Elrod, Dinah Edwards, and Lamar Elrod Jr.; grandchildren, Blake Elrod (Emily), Ryan Collins (Kayla), Megan Collins, Emily Edwards (Daniel Roberson), and Chelsea Elrod (Dawson Harper); great-grandchildren, J-Lee Elrod, Brynlin Elrod and Rhiannon Collins; mother, Willadeen Elrod; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Elrod Roberts (Glenn), Bertha Elrod Tatum (Kenneth), David Elrod (Janice), Glenn Elrod (Brenda(, Patricia Elrod Cole (Gary), and Pamela Elrod McClure (Lamar); nieces and nephews, Michelle Roberts Puryear (Dean), Bruce Roberts, Tony Tatum (Elizabeth), Jeffrey Tatum (Katie), David Elrod (Ann), Kim Elrod Cleary, Michael Cole, Candace Rogers Hanbury (Eric), Zack Rogers, Marla McClure Thomas (Daniel), Jeremy McClure (Claire), Angela Elrod Kittle (Jeremy); special friend, Roger Stephens.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Friday in the chapel of Love Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-9 PM and then again on Friday from 1-3 PM at the funeral home.
