Mr. Terry Lee Johnson, AIA, 58, of Alpharetta, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and Betty V. Johnson, brother, Jimmy O. Johnson, and nephew, Jeremy W. Cantrell.
At the age of twelve, Terry met Danita at a wedding and knew from first glance that he was destined to spend the rest of his life with her. Terry graduated from Dalton High School where he was a linebacker on the Catamount football team. Fostered by his father, his passion for architecture and the built environment earned him degrees in Environmental Design and Architecture from Auburn University. As a registered architect, his career led him to multiple cities in the Midwest and on the East Coast while working with Franklin Design Group, Bergmeyer Associates, Hallmark Cards, and ICI Paints North America. In 2003, Terry founded Modicum, LLC, a consulting firm serving the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. Consulting with CEOs and firm leaders, he developed and cherished many lasting friendships as his client firms achieved greater success. He was particularly proud of his work and the friendships he made as President of the Executive Board of Auburn’s College of Architecture, Design, and Construction and Dean’s Club Member, as well as the American Institute of Architects Atlanta Chapter.
Terry found most joy in caring and providing for those he loved. He loved his family fiercely and was particularly proud of his daughters. Providing endless support, he helped them grow into strong women as they discovered their passions – architecture and music. No distance or challenge was too great to stop him from being there for his family.
Architecture and woodworking remained a source of pleasure for Terry, as did boating, fishing, traveling, beach adventures, family outings, and Auburn University football.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Danita P. Johnson, and three daughters, Emily, Ashley, and Kelsey Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Estelle Parker; sister, Joyce J. Cantrell, brother and sister-in-law, Tim A. and Kathy Johnson; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
