Theodore “Lamar” Gazaway departed this life on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 19, 1935 in Dalton, GA. He was the son of the late Otto Gazaway and Velma Curtis Gazaway.
Lamar loved spending time with his family and being outdoors. He was a member of City View Church of God, where he served The Lord as Deacon and lead guitar player. With his love of music, Lamar served the community with the Easy-Does-It band, playing at nursing homes and at benefit functions to assist those that were in need. Lamar was a loyal employee of World Carpet for many years as a truck driver and transportation manager. He built and operated Gaz Groceries and Carbondale Pawn. As a former business owner in the Carbondale community, Lamar was known and loved by everyone. His passion was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, his church and his love of Redwine Cove, which his early ancestors helped found. He was a pillar in the community and will be truly missed by his loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Gazaway Sowder. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce Gazaway of the residence. His children include Janet (Mike) Byrne, Kenny (Teresa) Gazaway, Wayne Gazaway, Randy Gazaway, Gary Gazaway and Trena (Joey) Martel, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 19 th , 2021 at Love Funeral Home in Dalton GA. Family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Services will follow immediately in the chapel. Officiants will be Michael Gazaway (grandson) and David Mathis. Pallbearers will include David Bruner, Lane Hall, Shane Sowder, Tyler Gazaway, Lane Gazaway and Dwayne Smith.
