Mr. Thomas C. “Tommy” Stocks, 86, of Dalton went home to live with the Lord Saturday February 23, 2019.
He was the son of the late John and Inez Pierce Stocks and was preceded in death by his brother John Ralph Stocks and a nephew David Williamson.
Tommy graduated from Dalton High School in 1950 and then from North Georgia Military College with Distinguished Military Honors in 1954. He served as second lieutenant in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of Dalton First United Methodist Church and a member of Dalton Elks Club.
Tommy loved playing golf, eating at the Senior Center with his friends, visiting the Library, and Thursday night family dinners at Los Pablos, but he especially loved spending time with Maddie, his great-granddaughter.
Tommy was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He always told his family “We are a blessed family”.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Marcie Masters, Valerie and Rick Knowles all of Dalton; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Lee Buckner of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Tonja (Tommy) Ensley, Garrett Masters, Thomas (Kelli) Kilgore, John Walker Knowles and Amanda Knowles; great-granddaughter, Maddie Redmond; niece Diane Beverly; mother of his children, Peggy Albertson and special friend Fran Setters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the day and night nurses of the Westcott/Beckler wing of Hamilton Medical Center for their love, care and compassion. Also to his brothers and sisters at the Elks Lodge, your care and visits to him will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dalton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Willingham officiating.
The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the Church on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery with American Legion Post #112 in charge of military rites.
The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Day Care Scholarship fund, 500 S. Thornton Ave., Dalton, GA 30720.
