Troy Jenkins, 83, of Dalton passed away at his home Friday morning, October 2, 2020, due to stage 4 lung cancer. Just like he handled all experiences in life, Troy managed his illness with strength and hope, and wanted to spend as much time as possible with his loved ones. He spent his final days at home, surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything.
Troy served in the U.S. Army Infantry, 1960 to 1962, at Fort Benning, GA and Fort Bragg, NC. He went on to work as a welder and retired in 2005. In his spare time he loved being outdoors and spending time with his family.
He was a loving husband to Myrna for 59 years, as well as an amazing father to his daughter, Tara and his son, Barry. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Ruby Jenkins of Tunnel Hill, and sister, Vera Jenkins.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna Jenkins of Dalton; son, Barry Jenkins of Roswell, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and David Wood, of Burgaw, NC; and grandchildren, Caleb Wood, Lindsay Wood, Nathan Wood, Sophie Wood, Julia Jenkins, John Jenkins, Will Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins. Survivors also include his sister, Jurialean Black; nephews, Greg and Wesley Black; niece, Angela Black, all from Rocky Face.
The family held a private funeral on Sunday and asks that any donations made in Troy’s honor go towards the American Cancer Society or Crown View Baptist Church.
Troy was laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery.
