Vernon Ray Youell, 82, of Chatsworth Georgia passed away on Sunday June 30, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Meredith and Mary Elmina Gray Youell and his sister Alice Beaver.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha Faye Pitts Youell, children Connie (Jack) Richards, Jim (Bridget) Youell and Chris (Trisha) Youell. Grandchildren, Chelsey (Sean) Jagusch, Brandy (Billy) Morris, Paige (Tommy) Tucker, Cody Richards, Haley Richards, Sara Youell (Mikayla Peschke), Natasha Youell and Makhail (Braxton) Beal. Great grandchildren Ivy Ryan (Nathan), Jayden Morris, Cheyenne Smith, Sebastain Tucker, Peyton Smith, Jace Morris, Tyr Jagusch and Bard Jagusch, his brother Robert (Magdalynn) Youell, sister Leona (Randy) Todd and many nieces and nephews.
Vernon was a jack of all trades while serving in the military, taking any opportunity to advance and learn all he could. Outside of the military he even became a fireman and having his own automotive shop. He retired from the Army after serving over 20 years, serving in Vietnam, Korea, Munich Germany, several stations state side and back to Stuttgart Germany, before retiring from Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. After his military career, he worked for the United Postal Service, retiring after 6 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint for 58 years where he and Faye were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for all time and eternity. He served in many different callings in the church, including an 18-month mission he and his sweetheart served in Portugal.
His passion was working on cars even at an early age, most of all he loved the time he spent with his sweetheart (Faye) and family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 A.M. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with David White, Cody Richards and Rev. Lamar Beason officiating. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Jim Youell, Chris Youell, Cody Richards, Thad White, Bryan Youell, Billy Morris and Alfonso Rodriguez.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Love Funeral Home.
Vernon will be buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #112 and the United States Army.
