Mr. William (Bill) Hollis Colley, 81, of Dalton passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018.
He was born in Chambers County, Alabama, the son of the late Hollis and Idella Moore Colley and was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Genelle and Bobby Crowder.
Bill graduated from Valley High in Valley, Alabama, and also from Auburn University in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in both Alabama and Georgia National Guards. He married the love of his life, Peggy Lou Hinkle Colley in 1961 and they were married for 57 years. He worked at Callaway Mills in Lagrange before he moved to Dalton in 1965 and then he worked for Dalton Sheet Metal Company. A lifetime Auburn War Eagle, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and working in his Rocky Face yard.
He was an active member of Dalton First Baptist Church since 1965; members of the Cecil Johnson Sunday School class were special friends.
Bill was the father of three children, Dr. Sharon E. Colley, English Professor at Middle Georgia State University, Laura Lynn (Colley), Herrin attorney, and Jason Hollis Colley (1975-2001); grandfather to Grace Caroline Herrin (18, Cumming, GCSU), Emmylou Maria Pruitt (18, Godfrey, IL), Carter Jay Herrin (14, Cumming, GA), and Faith Elizabeth Herrin (12, Cumming, GA).
The family would like to say a special thanks to wonderful ladies at Peace for You who made it possible for him to spend his last years at home.
Memorial services will be Monday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Dalton First Baptist Church with Rev. Johnathan Barlow, Rev Phillip Cannon and Rev. Larry Flanagan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1until 3 p.m. in the atrium of the church.
