In Memory of William Jackson ‘Pete’ Purvis August 3, 1935 – August 18, 2023
Pete passed away on August 18. He was born on August 3, 1935, in Esmont, Virginia, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
Pete and Melva were happily married for 68 years. They created a legacy of love and commitment that inspired everyone. Father to his late Son Mike Purvis, his daughters Pam and Kim Purvis. He was brother to Peggy Denby and the late David Purvis. Also survived by daughter-in-law Anita Purvis, grandfather to Chad and Lindsay Purvis and great grandfather to Jax and Reagan Rubens.
A graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Textile Manufacturing, Pete's journey took him from Esmont, Virginia to Dalton. He moved his family to Dalton in 1973, where he became a valued member of the community. His professional accomplishments were only outshined by his warm personality and genuine connection with everyone.
Pete enjoyed golf and tennis and took great joy in his long-standing role as the ‘Reader Man’ for the Methodist Church Kindergarten. He was a member of the Dalton Country Club, Tree Board and Hamilton Medical Center reflecting his commitment to community.
Pete had a remarkable ability to light up every room with his wit, humor, and infectious laughter. His personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
As we honor Pete, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that continues to shine brightly. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
The visitation will be held at The River Church on Sunday, August 27 from 2-4PM, the service at 4PM.
